It occurred to me that rims are possibly designed for either Presta or Schrader valves. They are not compatible. After calling Velocity USA to confirm, I found that indeed the rim I bought has a hole drilled for a Presta valve which is narrower.
Since I bought Schrader tubes and would rather use this type of valve that matches my other two front wheels, I'll have to have my shop drill a larger hole in the rim to accommodate the larger Schrader valve. No biggy. I just need to remember to make the request.
